The healthy minds team is a Mental Health Support Team (MHST) which links closely with schools and colleges to offer early intervention and prevention to help you at the earliest opportunity. We work with children, young people and families experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties.

We support children and young people from reception age through to higher education, including those in college.

What can we help you with?

If you are struggling with mild to moderate mental health problems or issues such as:

  • Low mood and depression
  • Worry & anxiety
  • Controlling anger
  • Bereavement/loss
  • Bullying
  • Eating difficulties
  • Self-Harming behaviours
  • Relationship & family difficulties

We can help you by offering you support services or directing you to the most appropriate treatment.

We aim to help children and young people at the earliest possible stage, to encourage positive wellbeing, develop key skills and reduce the risk of further distress.

If you’re in need of help from the Healthy Minds Team you can ask your teacher or your child’s school to request support or you can contact us via the Single Point of Access on tel. 0191 283 2937

Do my parents need to know?

  • If you are aged 12 years or under:

We will link with parents and carers to gain initial consent to provide a service.  This does not mean we tell your parents or carers everything you say and there is no requirement for them to be involved in your direct therapy.

  • If you are aged 16 or under:

You can consent to receiving a service and/or treatment independently if you are assessed as having the ability to understand and appreciate what is involved in the care and treatment being offered.

  • If you are aged 16-17 years:

You are entitled to consent to your own care and treatment. We do not require contact with your parents or carers.

You have control over who else is involved in your care and this service observes strict NHS standards of confidentiality. The only time we will inform others without your permission is:

  • If there is a potential risk of harm to you or others, including children, or if there has or may have been a crime committed, we are obliged to share this information.
  • If you inform us that you are currently or have in the past been abused or hurt by another person, we may have to share this information to protect others.
